The Anatomy of "Stuck"

Feeling stuck is one of the problems faced by any one at any life moment. Scholars agreed that feeling stuck may be caused by three main reasons: not being ready to change, overthinking, and hesitation.

The Anatomy of Feeling Stuck

O.M.G! ' I felt stuck'!?
Have you ever asked 'what happened to me?' questions like:

  • -I keep on regretting the past and I can't go on with the future. What happened to me?
  • -I have been considering my work as unfulfilled and this is coming back and forth, every now and then, hindering me from moving forward. What's going on?
  • -I was laid off, few days ago. I am thinking of several options on having a new career but I can't figure out how. Why is this so?
  • -I have always wanted to write a book. I decided to change the place to a suitable one for this purpose. I have quitted my job too. But it's really absurd for me where to begin in order to write a book. Why is it that I am so sluggish about this?

These and many other similar life conditions can be answered with one sentence.

'You Got Stick at This Moment'

But, hey, you are not alone. Feeling stuck is one of the problems faced by any one at any life moment. Scholars agreed that feeling stuck may be caused by three main reasons. Let's navigate through them one by one, together with their solutions.

Three Reasons You Are Stuck

1- You're not ready to change.

This resistance to change, might happen due to several reasons. You May cling to the past too tightly that it will be difficult for you to detach yourself from that kind of scenario. Or else, without reason, you may feel that this thing is not going to work. So, why continue it further? You lose meaning. This way or that way, you're stuck. The only solution for this is, convincing yourself that you have to change. That is it. I'd had enough. Therefore, this is the time that I have to decide to change. (DECISION, coming from a Latin word meaning to cut off.)

"DECISION, coming from a Latin word meaning to cut off. So, you have to cut off the idea of being stuck and shift into restarting."

2- Overthinking

You may waste months to years worrying too much about things that must be changed but doing nothing about it. Mostly, this happens because you have already complicated your move. You may think about various ways of doing it but you're not clear with them. This is because you haven't simplified the thing that you want to do. In order to have a clear vision about it, take some minutes every day, in order to do it bit by bit. Usually, fifteen minutes a day will be enough. Do it consistently. It will become simplified more and more to the extent of being easy to handle.

Overcoming Hesitation

3- Hesitation

This might keep you spinning for years. You're ready to change. You made a decision to do so. You've made the plan. Simplified it down. But you can't do it without hesitating. The only solution for this kind of problem is to take action. Don't wait until you feel ready. Motivation is garbage. And if you wait to get motivated, you may be stuck for the rest of your life. So, stop focusing on the outcome, rather on the identity. Eg) It's not about writing a book but a person who is a writer.

But how? There is a method called Implementation Initiation. Pick a time and the time signal when you are going to write every day. Eg) Decide at 8A.M and pair it with your alarm, every morning, sit down and force yourself to write for about 15 min. The intention is the action that you are going to do in terms of the new habit, that will make the action easier to perform because the alarm will become a cue. You may prepare the needed materials the evening before or you may pair it with something that you like to do, in order to keep its simplicity.

So, sit down every morning, blank pages, and try whatever is in your mind. Keep it constant for a hundred consecutive days. You may not write a book, but you will turn out to be a writer. Because every action you take contributes to the pathway of your future aim. This way, you can avoid your hesitation. So
